BlackT Linux
BlackT Project
BlackT project was started with a view to provide substantial support for all kinds of linux related issues. Hence it was thought, instead of understanding some other Linux distribution and acting as a liaison authority, on the suggestion of a few technical gurus opinion, why couldn't we begin our own distribution which would start the activity of supporting line issues that are totally local to Indian environment.
By Indian environment, we do not wish to over do by saying we support hardware/ software related issues totally local. Wherever possible we thought we shall not reinvent the wheel. We are not pretending that we are doing everything on our own, nor what ever we do belongs to us completely. We are well aware of the development of the entire Open Source philosophy, and we in fact belong to that community.
Our main motto is to start something new, useful to our Indian society, culture and people, and more strongly to our Learning Student Community, to give them an environment, an opportunity to not only take part in the activity but to contribute constructively to the society as a whole. We are certainly not the first, nor the last who have attempted such an endeavour, but our motto would be to be the BEST.
The Name BlackT
All these thoughts emerged on one fine night, with few youths having no job, but willing to do hard work and give something useful to the society. As it turned out ironically enough, we wanted a cup of tea, but had no Milk. We said OK let us have a black tea. This small thing churned us,and made us to think about the future resource requirement. Hence we named it BlackT, symbolic to struggle and do with what we have and get along.' T ' is also a piping command in Linux which copies standard input to standard output. Join the BlackT Community.
Activities
We initially started, with a meager financial support. The active core group of BlackT worked hard right from scratch, to ensure an understanding of all the components. Obviously it was one of the toughest jobs, and we did not see an end to it.
We did this not only to get an idea, but also to support all those people who might involve tomorrow with some kind of our own local technical support. It was our best effort that went in the right direction.
We think we have achieved a lot, and our sleepless nights with linux distribution, kernel, and our own difficulties to put up with, will not go in wastes.
The BlackT Community
With this background, we are inviting any group, manufacturers, students, college people, to have a technical collaboration, discussion with us regarding any support, ideas, discussion, direction we can take and so on, which would make this movement more meaningful and useful to our society as a whole.
